🌈 The story behind the design 🌈

On October 1st  2022 we will be launching our rainbow socks!

Why did we choose the rainbow design? Firstly to help raise awareness around baby loss and to support our next charity, Tommy's. So with every purchase of our rainbow socks, we will donate 10% of the total sale to Tommy's to help fund vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth, so they can keep saving babies’ lives.

Sadly, 1 in 5 pregnancies ended in miscarriage (1 in 6 if we only count women who realised/reported the miscarriage), and estimates suggest there are 250,000 miscarriages every year in the UK and around 11,000 emergency admissions for ectopic pregnancies. A baby born after a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, termination for medical reasons, stillbirth or neonatal death is called a rainbow baby.

Members of the baby loss community have used the rainbow symbol for many years. For some parents, the symbol of a rainbow over-simplifies their experience because the arrival of a rainbow baby doesn’t take away the grief they feel about their loss. But for many parents, rainbows symbolise hope and light after a dark time.

Rainbow Socks

My wife and I went through two miscarriages, and after each, we were blessed with a rainbow baby, as seen in the photo above. Let me introduce you all to Felicity and Florence, our rainbow babies. Miscarriage is an extremely tough time, mentally and physically. You feel alone and that there is no support, and you're unsure what to do. Next, it's not till you start speaking with family and friends you realise more and more have been through this traumatic experience.

Your support is needed to help raise money for Tommy's, so this year for Baby Loss Awareness Week (9th - 15th October) ending with the Wave of Light (15th October at 7 pm), we would love to see all your photos of you showing your support wearing these socks. But don't let it be just for October. Let's keep going; our rainbow socks will be available to purchase all year round to show our continued support for such a tragic and traumatic time in a family's life.

If you or someone you know are currently going through a similar experience. Then please head to the Tommy's website.
